The Basin Ski Shop is the oldest business in the Killington Region. We actually began serving our customers 10 days before Killington Resort opened on December 14, 1958.

Throughout our history the Basin has always set a standard for quality and expert service.

In 1991, I, Rick Torrey, took over ownership of my favorite ski shop. As a fanatical skier, I was thrilled with my new occupation and my ability to ski daily. Over the next 15 years my daughter, wife, brother and a dedicated and loyal staff have joined me in revolutionizing the Basin. We are considered one of the best shops in the nation (if not the best) and have been awarded a gold medal by Ski Magazine for the past 7 years. We were also voted the best ski shop in New England.

My objective has always been to pick the best products available, provide unmatched service in every department and make the shopping experience enjoyable. Our recent expansion created space for one of the largest freeride shops, Evolution. Out of Bounds snowboards is now in the same building as the rest of Basin Sports which also includes an alpine race room and True Wheels, our summer cycle store. This is everything that I always wished for as a customer and seasonal resident at Killington.

The Basin was built on service starting with our bootfitting. Ray Garrett, manager of the boot department, has been with the Basin since 1987. With several pedorthists on staff our bootfitting team has unmatched expertise and is recognized nationwide. We have knowledgeable and passionate ski sales personnel as well as a friendly, qualified rental and demo department. Our precision tuning shop has the most advanced machines run by professional and experienced tuning staff.

Christine (my daughter and Vice President) and the Basin ladies are setting the direction of the market by recruiting some of the most passionate skiers and riders. All women’s product both technical and fashionable are tested and purchased with women in mind. In our clothing department Kim, Christine and I carefully select our product to serve the diverse needs of our customers. We chose products from the finest companies for their technical assets, fashion, function and quality.

Just to make sure we at the Basin are doing our job, I ski everyday and I am constantly testing new gear and reporting conditions for our website (don’t you feel sorry for me?).
